Bernadetta Stępień – Biography

Bernadetta Stępień was born in Krakow, and lives and works in the Krakow suburb of Zabierzów. She graduated from the High School of Fine Arts in Krakow, and in 1989 she graduated from the Department of Interior Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow.

She has had twenty-five solo exhibitions, and has participated in dozens of group exhibitions both in Poland and abroad. Her exhibition at the Place of Vauxhall in Krzeszowice was her anniversary of twenty solo exhibitions.

At the Third International Biennial of Pastel Drawings in Nowy Sacz in 2006, she received the Jerzy Madeyski Award. She belongs to the Polish Pastel Society as well as to the Krakow Branch of the Association of Visual Artists. In 2011, she was invited to cooperate with Umelecka Beseda Slovenska (the Association of Slovakian Artists), who also awarded her with official membership.

She paints in oils and watercolors, and she draws in pastels. Her greatest passion is for pastels. She has given demonstration lessons promoting this technology among students. She was a member of the jury of the National Pastel Biennial for Junior High and High School visual arts students. This biennial is organized by the Art School in Jaroslaw.

In 2013, she was the Commissioner of Plenair Pastel Drawing in Nowy Sacz, which is one of the features of the International Pastel Biennial. Taking part in this were artists from around the world, including the Netherlands, Denmark, Israel, Spain, Russia, Ukraine, Italy, as well as Poland.
